Thomas H. Pope III
Tom Pope has tried cases in state and federal courts for 39 years. He previously served as a member of the SC State Senate from 1984-1992. He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers (Vice Chair of the State Committee) and past-President of the SC Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Pope’s recent cases include: serious personal injury, products liability, consumer class action, legal malpractice, will contests, fiduciary duty litigation, minority shareholder oppression, condemnation (on behalf of landowners), insurance bad faith, defamation, and representing attorneys in disciplinary matters.
He has been listed in SC Super Lawyers since its inception. He has also taught American Civil Litigation to law students in former Communist countries of eastern Europe to enhance their understanding of fair justice for all, including the ordinary citizen, in civil cases. He has had 2-week stints teaching in law schools in Budapest, Hungary (Eotvos Lorand University); Tirana, Albania (University of Tirana); and recently in Pristina Kosovo (Iliria University).
In his local community, Pope has served in various capacities with the Newberry County Family YMCA Capital Campaign and as a Board Member of the Newberry Opera House. Currently, he serves as a member of the Board of Law Examiners of the SC Supreme Court.
